Introduction

The Victron Energy Filax 2 is an ultra-fast transfer switch specifically designed to protect and power critical or sensitive electrical loads, such as computers, industrial control systems, and modern entertainment equipment. It ensures a seamless transition between two AC power sources — maintaining uninterrupted operation even during power fluctuations.

General Description

The Filax 2 automatically switches between a priority source (such as mains, shore power, or generator) and an alternate source (typically an inverter). With an impressive switching time of less than 20 milliseconds, it guarantees that sensitive equipment continues operating without disruption during power changes.

Designed with an open transition (break-before-make) system, the Filax 2 ensures electrical safety by preventing overlap between power sources. The maximum load transfer time is 16 milliseconds, making it ideal for low-power critical systems where continuous operation is essential. It is not intended for high-power household appliances such as washing machines or electric motors.

Operation and Performance

Under normal conditions, the Filax 2 supplies power from the priority source. When the voltage or frequency of this source drops below or rises above the defined threshold limits, the system instantly transfers to the alternate source to maintain power continuity. Once the priority source stabilizes within acceptable voltage and frequency parameters for 30 seconds, the Filax 2 automatically switches back, ensuring reliable and efficient power management.
